Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a document approving the custody, Justice Moraes said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his son.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or see it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I urge you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so followers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of Justice Moraes's ruling was the chance of the former president's "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a consular facility", a statement said.

The court filing emphasizes that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

Bolsonaro's legal woes have generated frustration from fellow conservative nationalist US President President Trump, causing him to enact a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will have a custody hearing on the following day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the his legal team asked the Top Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that he be authorized to leave his home for healthcare, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the national vote to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.

The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. His successor was sworn in without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised government buildings in the federal district, the capital city.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been incited by the former president whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the period, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also banned from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the court case a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him competing in the 2026 national vote.
