Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
